Get Your Keys
How many times have you lost or misplaced your keys? What would you do if you had a brand new car waiting outside for you. But, you can't find the keys. I'm not talking just a regular car but the car of your dreams. How hard would you look for those keys? Would you just let day after day go by with the car just sitting there?
After a family outing not too long ago, our car seemed to have died following a family function at a relative’s house that was some distance away from where we live. My husband didn’t have it towed to a mechanic like normal people. Instead, we opted to have the “family friend” take a look at it. In the days that passed as we waited for the friend to look at the car, I remembered a previous occasion when my mother-in-law’s car wouldn’t start because the battery in her alarm remote was dead. Seeing that the remote for our car alarm had already been dropped a million times and was hinged together with electrical tape, which seemed like a possible answer. I mentioned this to my husband as a possible reason for the car not starting; he dismissed it stating that the problem was something must have been due to something else.
So for the next 6 weeks, we went from playing tag with the family friend who was never able to fix the car to having the car be buried under 5 feet of snow from the 2 storms that hit the area back to back. When the snow finally cleared and we were able to get the car towed to a real mechanic, he called to say that he was able to figure out what had happened with the car: the alarm remote needed to be replaced. My husband answered, “Are you sure? I went to the auto store and bought a part that the family friend told me would fix it.” The mechanic answered, “I’m sure.”
How many times have you talked yourself out of doing the thing that God created you for? It has been said that “that which you enjoy doing, you will do well”. The problem is, we tend to think if we enjoy doing our work, it must be a hobby. Deuteronomy 8:18 says that God gives us the power to get wealth. The gifts and talents God has given us are just that; they are the power He has given us to prosper. How many stories has there been about stay-at-home moms that have become entrepreneurs and multi-millionaires. Moms in the trenches with the little ones work what they have in spite of the limitations they have. The tools and businesses that are birthed from these trenches don’t start with the big corporate financial backing. Their inventions either solve a problem or fill a need and often start with taking a few minutes a day to do the one thing that brings them a little bit of joy or brings sanity to their otherwise crazy days. By the time the babies are out of the diapers and are off to their first days of school, these women are ready to take their business global.
Has God already given you the key to your destiny but you keep looking for unqualified people to give you ineffective alternatives to get you where you need to go? How much time have you wasted getting in cars going where other people tell you to go when God has already given you the key to drive yourself? Many times, God will speak and confirm it through those closest to you. We dismiss it, saying, “It can’t be that simple. There must be something else I have to do in order to be blessed.” Imagine the scribes and the Pharisees when Jesus came on the scene: “Jesus alone simply can’t be the way to salvation. The only way we can truly get to heaven is by doing a lot of “good” deeds. Believing in Jesus alone just sounds way too easy.” How wrong they were! Jesus said that He is the way (John 14:6). Stop making excuses and looking for other people to do what God has already gifted you to do. Receive the keys God has given you and start driving towards your destiny today!
